Okay, as previously mentioned, my new baby is a W208 CLK430 cab and appears to have benefitted from the AMG "special equipment", i.e. 17inch AMG rims with 245's on, AMG door sills and the upgraded BOSE stereo... the thing I haave to ask though is, did AMG 430's receive any extra fettling on the engine? The owners manual doesn't seems to mention it in the technical data, only that they had the big wheels, but the manual spec for 0-62 is 7.4sec and having just done a test run with a performancebox (GPS based performance meter), I'm getting a time of 6.3sec....?
Do these versions have any extra oomph? Or is a time of 6.3sec more like what you'd expect rather than the book stat?

I think it’s unlikely that your engine has been tuned by AMG. As I understand it you have a car with some options fitted (or fitted post first purchase by someone else) but I don’t believe AMG ever offered a version of your motor.

You're getting good numbers though smile

That's what I thought, which is why I thought I'd query the stats and if this 0-60 is actually closer to the mark than what Mercedes put in the book? Anyone else with a 430 care to compare?

I think the stock CLK430 was quoted as 0-100kph in 6.1 secs, so you're 6.3 is bang on given whatever "perfect conditions" are used in manufacturer quotes. The 7.4 would be quite slow for it and more in line with the 320.

My 55 is quoted as anywhere from 4.9-5.1 secs, I get around 5.2-5.3 secs. Obviously, depends on tyres, fuel used and so on. Also, if you do a search on the 430, you'll see quotes of sub-6 secs stock in the US for drag racing.

In that era (the W208, W210 era), they were the first in-house AMG's built after MB bought AMG. All of the 208s and 210s tuned by AMG at that time were badged '55', using the M113 engine (modified version of the V8 500 from MB with bored out crankshaft). The ones before then were the W210 E36 and W202 C36 and C43.

The manual I have quotes 6.4sec for the coupé and 7.4 for the cab. I did wonder how it could be so different. Perhaps the 7.4sec time is assuming you have the lid off and are creating a hell of a lot more drag?
