Hi.

I have an '88 500sl (107, so 16v) and would like to get the engine rebuilt & 'tuned'. It runs brilliantly anyway (only 90k miles) but I would like it built up to top standard, running crisply and cleanly with nice V8 burble and clean, smooth pick-up.

Any reccomendations for who does this work please? (Race-engine builders etc etc?) I am based in London-Oxford, M40, corridor.

Thank you!

Or, has anyone had success converting the older 16v engine to 32v as part of a rebuild?

Any suggestions as to where I can try gratefully received!

Thank you

I know that conversion has been done to the W126 (80s S-Class) saloon and C126 SEC, so I should think it could be possible in the R107.
It would be a great conversion, too thumbup

Personally i'd keep the M117 engine, very strong and I doubt it would take much work to bring out a few hp. Maybe start with the 560 SEL engine and then rebuild that, I got the engine and gearbox for my Escort for £250 so there must be engines out there. It's currently sat in my garage waiting for me to strip it down fully.

Dave!
