last year we bought a 500SL from a Merc dealer and its been a fab car - its 2003 and the Merc Warranty is due for renewal in June at a cost of . . . . .

£1400!!!!!!

Are there any alternatives - my main concerns would be exhaust cats and suspension for no other reason that they cost a BOMB to replace!!!

From what I understand the Merc warranty is fantastic.

Find out exactly what it covers, give them some examples and ask how they would be dealt with, any conditions etc.

Could be good to get any small minor faults or niggles you have with the car made perfect.

lo dealer does a service program.
Give them vehicle details, mileage etc etc and they sort out a package that includes all servicing and warranty, you can also pay it monthly.
The Merc warranty is the swingers though and worth every penny. I had an 04 SL and Cruise control sensor on bonnet failed, £1200 repair bill, thnak god for the warranty.

I too have a merc warranty. I bought my SLK last September from a dealership in Loughborough and got an extended warranty with it.

After a few months I noticed the rear nearside wheelarch begining to corrode and the bumper needed attention. They eventually conceded with the corrosion but stated the bumper wasn't part of the body work and wasn't covered. Luckily, it only cost me in the region of £20 to rectify the problem so didn't bother in arguing - but had it been more expensive I would have taken it further.

I'm having the warranty work done at the end of next month. I'll wait and see what the quality of the workmanship is like before I comment. Given the cost of these warranties, it should be good!
