MOT on my 2.6!
Discussion
Can you get someone to drive the car and you follow them?
Get them to accelerate in 2nd, let go of the throttle, and then get back on it again.
If it smokes on the acceleration then it's probably rings, but if it smokes when you get back on it after the overrun then it's probably the vacuum in the cylinders pulling oil past the valve stem seals and/or valve guides.
Valve stem seals are and easy job to do, and may be enough to get you through the MOT...

I care for the car alot, and when i picked it up yesterday i spoke with Mercedes about the failers, they were very picky, like (incorect colour side repeters) other things like tyres touching bodywork i can see but, still to this day i can see blue smoke!
They said that oil seels are very common on 190's but i'm likeing the last reply that looks alot cheeper! lol
Also what are people's views on puting a 205 cossworth block in it's place!
P.S/ The show is Donny North this weekend!

You could ask them to show you how they got the alleged blue smoke? Then if there is none, just go to another MOT station and have them do the test, chances are they won't pick you up on it if its non existant.

id give it a good thrash, an oil change and add something thicker and then take it for a retest before i even thought about new engines
Like that idea, well i'm taking in to Donnington park for the show and thats from Brighton, thats about 280 miles, i'm thinking get the thicker oil up there then bring it back and see what's what! Also i'm not looking at getting a 16V cossy it will be a 205RWD out of a saffire if i do it or a newer merc lump (charged)?
Right ok, before my trip i checked the oil and it was spot on still has not moved since my survice ages ago! went up and loved it such a smooth ride no problems at all stopped for a coffee with it still running and no smoke nothing even giving it some beans and nothing! got up there checked the oil again not moved, come all the was home waiting till it got cold then checked again, Not even moved! so NO blue smoke maybe mousture but goes quickly!
From Brighton to Donnington cost me 70-80 quid there & back which i thought was quite good!
What do i cheak next???

Assume you're talking about a 190 here.
3.0 drops in to the 2.6, a few have done it on www.mercedes190.co.uk
Would be nice with a good condition 3.0. Six cylinder 190s have slightly different slam panel and radiator setup so going back to a four cylinder engine could be an issue.
16v has been retrofitted to lesser models on above site as well. Personally I'd say go with 3.0 because the 16v, while having its epic moments, is not the be-all and end-all of Merc engines. Unless you want improved handling as the six cylinder has got to be heavy. You can even feel the extra weight of the 16v engine upfront over that of the 8v four cylinders..

Wont something different, Like i was looking at a ford cossy lump!
At the mo i'm just loving the 190 shape and the fact it's spotless i sure it's worth going through the pain of an engien change!

I thought your car was a genuine Cosworth albeit with a 2.6 engine fitted? At least that's what you've told us before....Wont something different, Like i was looking at a ford cossy lump!

If so, why not source a 16 valve unit and return it to original?
Because theres others like that, i always look for something different! 190e Kompressor is more head turning that a standard cosworth!
And yes it is a cosworth apart from the 2.6 lump! Shes going into the bodyshop again on the 14th for the plastic trim round the bottem of the cossy kit,
I know anything can be fitted it would just be nice to keep it Mercedes!

BTW give me the chassis number (PM it if you don't want to reveal it here) and I'll confirm the build spec on the car (and that it is indeed a genuine Cossie).
