Alright all.

I have a C36 and have been told the slight wine from the front of the engine is from the water pump and it needs replaced.
Can anyone tell me for sure if the water pump is the same as on c280 or were the best place to buy one is?
Merc are quoting £198 plus vat!!!!
Eurocar parts have pumps for the w202 c280 from just over £50 can anyone help.

Many thanks

Stuart.

Mine went at 87,000 miles and was obvious by the green fluid dripping out but as it was replaced under warranty , I can`t tell you how much it cost .

Any Merc spares dept should be able to give you the parts numbers for both the C36 and the 280 and , if they`re the same , you could fit the alternative .

One of the good things about the C36 (as opposed to any later AMG car) is that many of the parts are borrowed from other contemporary mainstream Mercedes - such as braking components etc , so running costs are containable ; however if you`re in any doubt , fit the genuine part as a C36 engine rebuild will be a great deal more money (!) .

Hi Micky

Yeh mines just done 72k and is not leaking and cooling the car fine but there is a wyne from the front. It was my local mechanic that adviced a water pump.
Can you remember if yours made a noice or was it just not working.

Have bought one from eurocar parts for £91 plus vat that the OEM part.
I agree with you on buying cheeper parts they tend to cost you more in the long run.

I hope this will fix it.

Stu , mine actually failed on the test drive (!) but I can`t remember any untoward noises . My 300 TE waterpump blew up on the A1 covering the windscreen in coolant ; luckily I was only two minutes away from a garage who fitted a new one .

Good luck with the car, mines just coming out of winter storage . I decided not to sell this year as I can`t really think of anything that I want which would accommodate my young family . I`m having some minor cosmetics done and I`ve just replaced the Lambda probe which has cured a slight surge when idling .
