New C class - but which engine

I am about to lease a c-class sport on a 3 year deal and have been told the c220cdi is the best engine to go for (unless I go bigger but I dont want to increase the cost too much). However Im told that there aren't any available until may at the earliest.

Can anyone recommend if this really is the one to go for and wait, or is the 200 nearly as good? (can be diesel or petrol)

I would personally struggle justifying anything different than the 220CDI in either manual or auto although the 320CDI is an asbsolute hoot if you can justify the stretch....

If the C220cdi has the same diesel engine as the E220cdi, which i think it does looking at BHP figures, then I'd hold out for it. I had an E220cdi estate as a courtesy car recently and it was significantly swifter than the my C180K or the C200K petrol cars, loads of punch albeit with a little bit of lag, this was despite it being a heavier estate car so it should be a thug in the smaller lighter C-Class. Don't settle for the wrong car just to get it quicker, I did and have regretted not holding out since!!

Go for the C220CDI Sport (170bhp & 400nm torque)

I found the C200 petrol or diesel to be too slugish compared with the 220.

Agree with the general consensus about the 220cdi, I've had 2 since the launch in June 07 and they are great to drive. How come you cant get one until May? Who are you buying it through? There are a few out there, we've got an un-sold one at the moment, did have 2 until today, so there should be a bit of stock available for immediate delivery. You can PM me the spec if you want, im working tomorrow so I can have a search of the UK stock if it helps.

Its being leased and the company Im going through say I will have to wait for one to come from the factory now which will take until May.

The bonus is the 200 will come with leather at no additional cost! Im going for this one for now as need to get on the road for work sharpish, but Ive been told I can probably swap if needs be.
