If you have the auto box, i believe there is a filter in the gearbox which can be changed/cleaned along with an oil change, this might help. How easy it is to do youself, is another matter, but it will certainly be cheaper than a new box. I would certainly try this before diving in for a new gearbox.

An oil and filter change is probably going to be the cheapest fixes you can have apart from stripping the box down or having a recon one fitted. Bite the bullet and take it to someone who actually knows what they are looking at, let them take it out for a test drive, they will know more than punters on here throwing in there 2 pence worth, if you dont know then find a man who does.
