Is buying this a good idea?

Looks like sensible money for that sort of car, I would probably check with M-B Sheffield though that their story checks out; they should have all the information on the damage the car sustained and how bad the flood damage was.
There are obviously quite a few flood damaged cars appearing on the market at the moment; a colleague of mine bought an A2 that was written off with flood damage and there was nothing at all wrong with it, apprently they were concered that water had gotten into the ecu as it is on the floor of the car - but it hadn't, he just wet-vacced it and it was as good as any other A2 on the road but for 1/2 the price!! I think with amount of claims being put in for flood damaged cars in such a short time the assessors were probably finding it easier just to write cars off.
I would reccommend getting it inspected by an M-B dealer and ensure the whole story checks out, if it does it looks like a load of car for the money.

It could be classed as cheap motoring but you have to weight things up, will you be selling on and hoping to recoup similar money? as you are buying into a very small market when you buy Cat C written off cars.
Also be sure that whoever you insure with will need to know whats been done and tat it is Cat C, they will give you a much lower pay out if you claim on a write off, check with them too.
Also check it has been inspected and certified to go back on the road, i believe its called a VIC inspection
