The new C320 CDI estate has reached the final 3 on my practical car shortlist, but was wondering about people's experiences of buying new from Mercedes main dealers. I haven't dealt with Mercedes before, and I'd like to go into discussions armed with facts or anecdotal evidence.

What sort of discounts are typically achievable? I presume it's realistic to expect them to equal the offers from the brokers, which seem to be a flat 10% off list for the car and options? I'm a cash buyer, unlikely to be part-ex'ing anything if that makes a difference.

Thanks!
Pete

I bought a w204 c200k sport for my wife in August last year with options came to 29,600 got 1042.00 of it with cash buy ended up that I could't sell her audi a3 and the very nice salesman took the discount back via under-valuing the trade-in watch out!

I'm looking to place a main dealer order for a new SLK in a couple of weeks, and if I don't get a fair bit over 5% off I'll walk!
Trouble is, the new model's pricelist isn't out yet, so all the brokers are quoting discounts based on the old model and prices. This'll make it harder to drive a deal with the dealer I suspect. Perhaps I'm being too optimistic, but I'll give it a good try ... wink

The most you would be able to achieve would be 7% off of a new car order; although some dealers (including ours) are sometimes a bit reluctant to give away all of their margin on a new model, so you will need to do some negotiating. If you need any help please don't hesitate to contact me through my profile.

Sytner corporate discount was 7% in 2005 when we bought a C220 CDI.

Should be able to get 7 or 8 percent off. If you do get one, make sure you collect it from the Bremen factory, well worth it.

Highly unlikely you'll get 10% off unless someone is using a fleet code.

Dealer margin is 8% and as matc says most dealers want to retain some margin to run the dealership, we're not at the point in the year where it is worth giving stuff away for back end retros.

Thanks for all the advice. If I go down the C class route I shall have a chat to the dealer, but it sounds unlikely he'll be able to meet the broker's price. Depends on the size of the difference in that case.

Cheers,
Pete

A lot of brokers just route you through to a dealer....
