Any idea how they have squeezed an extra 33 bhp out of the SLK 350? It sounds suspiciously like the equivalent of a Brabus chip. Was it more "structural" than that (thereby (hopefully) allowing for a bit of Brabus to take the power upto near AMG standards)

Any inside knowledge?

According to the official blurb they have achieved it by increasing the red-line figure and fitting a free-er flowing exhaust/airfilter. Not sure if there have been any 'structural' changes to the engine.

I think the theory about just a slight re-map is probably true.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Mine always sounded like it hit the rev limiter about 500-1000 rpm too early.
