I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but here's my understanding of the two.....

Tiptronic is an automatic gearbox with a "manual" override to change the gears.
Sequential is a "clutchless" manual gearbox - ie. you only have two pedals in the footwell.

The tiptronic (in manual mode) and the sequential geabox will both automatically change up when reach the engine's redline, however.

The tiptronic on my E class will NOT shift up even at the redline , it will shift down though.
