Hi ya folks.

I'm interested in A car for less than £30K, and have noticed that some of the above cars have dropped in to that budget.

Firstly, I believe Mercedes do A comprehensive warranty. Is this still available if I buy a car from a third party ? I presume they'd want to inspect my car before offering a warranty ?

Also, has anyone had their car tuned ? I believe Kleeman do it.

More importantly, what do you think about the car ..Pros & cons ?

Hi Russ, for warranty's go for the service contract yes they will have to check the car and I am not sure but main dealer history may be essential.
Hopefully the car you buy will have recent new brakes and other maintenance
items, the service contract can cover Everything including servicing but not tyres.
Tuning; Kleemann or Dms, also worth doing the gearbox ecu upgrade.
If you enjoy a fast saloon and 14-20 mpg is OK, there nothing near it in the price range.

Thanks Mark. I've got to get rid of one car first. I'm presuming the CL is a coupe version of the S. I'm sure I saw one advertised with a fridge recently, made me smile for some reason.

I think realistically, I'm looking at late 02 to 04, so hopefully it'll have Merc history, but I'll make sure.

Thanks

pros :

Probably rather quick iirc S600 does 0-200kph in 15secs.
Big and comfortable.
Lot of gadgets to keep one amused and keep attention away from the fuel consumption!

cons :
Fuel consumption? 20mpg on a run?
Maybe abit to long as its only available in LWB?
I think these cars have still a fair way to in used price (downwards). I remember looking at S600 bi turbos just before xmas, i'm pretty sure that the dealer net work showed most of them at high £30Ks, now its possible to pick up one low £30Ks.. on the a 04 plate and above. the same seems to be happening to the E55AMG.

buying from a dealer is probably a wise move..

I think I'm leaning towards the CL at the moment. I rarely carry rear passengers, and it looks a tad more "sporty".

I don't do that many miles, so MPG isn't too much of A problem.

There's A 2003 52 plate on AT with 60k miles at £22K at an indie, it's been there a while.

Hi

Did you get a chance to view the car?

No sorry NST. I've got two Cerberas at the moment, so I need to shift at least one of them to create some drive space.

Another one has appeared on AT over the weekend. It's £22K again, but with lower miles, Black this time. Can't decide whether I like Black or Silver, until I've seen one in the flesh.

There's an 04 @ £25K but with 74k on the clock. That mileage wouldn't put me off on a big engine, but for some reason I like my cars to have less than 60K on the clock....I don't know why, I just do smile

Can I presume that the various tuning options invalidate the Mercedes warranty ? I rather liked the idea of an all inclusive warranty from Mercedes.

Id love a Cl600. Prices seem reasonable they look nice and iv always wanted a V12 as V8’s are very common here. Kleemann kit would top it of nicely with a cheeky 627bhp. I think their Sl600 did 217mph so the Cl won’t be slow. Go on Russ and tell us about it cause it’ll be a good few years before I can get one

Not wishing to hijack your thread Russell but thought it would be pointless starting a new thread asking the same questions.
I am also in the market for a 4 year old CL 600 circa £25k and would like to know any problems to be aware of. A couple of years I drove a new CL600 through France and Spain and loved it. I know all the positives about the CL600 but was wondering if there have been any problems/negatives to be aware of on a 4 year old model with between 50-80k miles on the clock?
I hope the information gathered here will help both you and I Russell (and others) in our quest for a truly neat piece of kit.

Blimey, keep us all updated - I never realised the prices of these were so affordable (for what they are) now. You really get as much car as you could ask for for that money, can't really see a reason for buying a new VW Touareg or a new high end BMW 3 series with a mere 250-300bhp when you could have a 500bhp S-class with a lot more toys! Granted they're not aimed at the same happiness spots...

Also much cooler than an AMG which have become far too common and widely accepted these days!

Finally if you want to be Arab royalty about it, you can tune the turbo V12 happily as well.

Don't bother going to look at this one: http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/MERC...

It's sold! The salesman, this morning when I turned up at the showroom, told me a guy from Germany placed a deposit over the phone and picked it up before it even got to the shop!
They had 3 other people's numbers who were after the car.

Shows you that the market for a complex gas guzzler is still there. They said it was a lovely car in the right colour with all available options......
