Hi,

can anyone help on missing pixels in outside temp and clock displays on the dash console?

Both readings have pixels missing.
This makes them very unreadable.

Is this soemthign that is easy to fix?
Or soemthing long and expensive? Expensive parts etc?

Any help or info on this much appreciated.

Thanks.

Everything I've read says the entire unit needs replacing, however if you can find a serial number or manufacturer on the display component you may be able to source the pixel display yourself at considerable saving.

If its surface mount though, you're going to have a hell of a job removing it.

Common fault apparently, E class as well. There is an Indy in Brum that can change them and download the info onto the new cluster. PM me if you want more info.

I read on a Mercedes forum chances are it's a loose cable. Will cost a bit to get round the back, though.

I have the same problem on my 2001 CLK. My Merc service man advises you can get the displays themselves replaced (about £300) or get the whole board replaced at (£500. Both require the dashboard removed and replaced and the computer downloaded and uploaded after the full change to maintain service history, car details, colour, seats, etc.

He recommends the full works not because he wants the money but he has not has the part work done before. The dashboard is easy to remove and replace, a couple of hours both ways. It does make you wonder what you are paying for though doesn't it?

Do you really want to pay £300 - £500 just to see the clock and outside air temperature. You might need it done cosmetically or if you are going to sell. Don't see this on Fords and Vauxhalls though or any other car that I can think of.
