Smart Roadster Roll Call
Discussion
Hi all,
I had one for twelve months and I absolutely loved it. Sure it had a few faults (slow gearshift, could do with a bit more power... but thats all), but what car in that price range is going to be perfect? The gearshift is a product of needing a semi-manual for packaging and weight, and needing it to be cheap and yet durable for pricing. And similar reasoning applies to the power.(Indeed I've read a lot of posts claiming the 295bhp is too little for a Cayman S, so I doubt you would ever reach a point when everyone would agree that power is sufficient.)
The only reason I swapped is that I wanted something brutal while I'm still young and free, but no doubt I'll be back for a mint Roadster-Coupe BRABUS as a second motor in the future.
My spec was:-
2004 54 Smart Roadster Light
Jack Black
Grey cloth interior
Smart single CD (optional extra)
Speaker upgrade pack
Luggage rack
Hard travel case for luggage rack
Velour floormats

I've got one too.
This pic was taken just after I bought it in June last year, but these days it has glossy black wheels and slightly wider tyres.
It also went in for the full SmartArse treatment a week after I bought it! So it's had a remap (110 BHP now!), a Janspeed Stealth exhaust system, a Venom induction kit, TIK pipe. Quite an improvement over the "out of the box" Roadie IMVHO. Doing all this to it has smoothed out the torque curve somewhat, and now I actually get power out of it fairly low down the rev range - was a bit frustrated with the standard map because there wasn't much torque until pretty high up in the range. Can scan the paperwork if anybody wants to see...
Anyway, I really like my Roadie. And it doesn't leak.
