Just taken delivery of a new GL Class 320. What a nice car!! Being our first 4x4 I have to say how pleasantly surprised I am as to how agile it is yet also so relaxed on the motorways. Performance is good too - to quote my son "go tank go"!!

Got an absolutely stunning deal from the local Merc main dealer in Soton who matched prices on contracthireandleasing.com - brilliant! Turned out less expensive than an M-Class and an X5, even including all the goodies that came with it.

The 320 actually feels quicker than the V8 diesel IMO

Yep have a GL320 and an ML420 on that same cracking deal. GL is superb...320 engine is not too bad especially when DMS'd and the 420 is laugh out loud fast!

Quite like the look of them

Do the main rear seats in the GL move back and forward for leg room ?

How does it fit in super market car parking spaces ?

Thanks

You pick your parking space (and your car park) carefully - it's a big car, long and wide. Even if you can get into the space, you need space to open the door! The optional reversing camera helps when manouvring in tight spaces. I've got a GL420 and the missus has a ML320. The 320 is definitely a diesel with grunt, the 420 is more like a low revving petrol engine. Incredibly smooth, very quiet, lots of grunt. Quite different in feel on the road too, the GLs airmatic suspension providing a very smooth ride when compared with the MLs standard suspension. 24 mpg versus 29.

AFAIK (i have a 320 CDi GL) the only seats that "move" are the front ones.

The 3rd row "fold" flat electrically into the boot floor but do not move back and forth.

The 3rd row can accomodate 2 six ft adults comfortably, if that helps.

n.b. great car, make sure you get the acoustic parking sensor things, back and front, you need them!

2nd row of seats has a reclinable back rest - 5 positions IIRC, 3rd row seats are fixed but I can sit in them quite comfortably (19st - 6ft) - more importantly, I can get out too!

Mine came with a reversing camera, not an extra I would have normally chosen but it really is a boon with the GL which, if anything, could do with larger wing mirrors, but aesthetically, that would hardly look good!

Excellent!
Was driving behind one the other day and it was gigantic!
Get some pictures up if you can find a camera with a wide enough lens.

I was going to buy a GL420 cdi for my wife but after a test drive she said it was just too darn big! 7 seats would have been handy though.

Having said that, I think theres a big question over residuals on these cars. I was offered a 400 mile 2 week old example for £48k. The list price with extras was £72k!!

Did the trip down to deepest darkest Cornwall (Newquay) to visit daighter and partner at the weekend. Very impressed with the sheer engineering of this beast - stable, quiet, comfortable. MPG in the lanes was absolutely pants at around 17 but returned an overall 25.something over the 550 miles we did in total.

And not in the slightest bit knackered either!
