I am considering buying a CL but have a slight problem with headroom despite lowering it to its lowest point. Is it possible to adapt the seat (or get rid of the sun roof) to make more headroom? I only need about one inch extra.

Which generation do you mean? The '90s CL ('140 series), the previous 4-headlight generation (C215) or the latest C216 generation?

We have a 140 generation CL, and the rear room is fine. I dare say that's true of any generation of CL.
Remember these are based on the S-Class, so (despite having half the door count), space excellent for four adults.
Even my lesser E-Class coupe has superb headroom thumbup

I looked at the 4 light CL, maybe a 2001, and the headroom was appalling. The dealer didn't think it could be altered because the electronics are all under the seat. I thought the lack of room for suck a big car was appalling. a 575 Maranello has more!

Sorry, I should have mentioned that it is a CL215, the CL55AMG. I have been trying to decide whether to buy this car or an E55 AMG which has no problem on this aspect.

The one I tried was a CL55 and I think that perhaps the seats are more padded than the non- AMG models. I read some reviews before I went to test this car and most journalists commented that this car offers very little room for its size.

Many thanks for your comments. I agree completely about the limited size, however, it's not so important since I drive primarily without passengers.

It was the lack of legroom compared to an S Class for the drvier that was poor as well. It seemed to have the same interior dimensions as the SL.

Can confirm that the C215 has restricted head and leg room for a tall driver. There is more headroom in R230 SL (ie current generation). I know because that is what I bought when I couldn't get comfortable in a C215. Even a new shape R171 SLK has more headroom than a C215! The latest CL is a completely different animal though, lots of headroom despite the sunroof.

Very Interesting. I sat into a new type CL at the week-end and I honestly thought it was worse than the CL215! I have a long back and short legs. I am going to have a final look at the car I'm interested in at the week-end and if I am not fully satisfied, I'll abandon it. Otherwise I thought it was a wonderful car.

Thanks for all your comments. Frank

I surprised by these comments! about the C215.

I'm 6'2, and the C140 rear seat is fine for me. Was the C215 smaller? Or are you guys just giants hehewink
