The ML63 is a serious bit of fun, and suprises a lot of people with it's handling/performance. The build quality is pretty good, the only thing I would say is the interior (mainly door cards) is a bit plastic/harsh feeling in places, it's well screwed together but does feel a little bit contrasting with the asking price. The seats are very good with good quality nappa leather and nicely shaped. The only other thing obviously is the fuel consumption being shocking, but I guess you already know it's not going to be great being a 6.2 4x4!!
I would suggest you go and get a drive in one, MB world would be the best choice as you can have a go on track with it. During normal everyday driving you will find it as comfortable and easy to drive as a normal 320cdi.

get car imho
yes it should have a leather dash like the amg sl's
yes the door cards are a little flakey
yes the alu trim dents very easily on the door cards too - so try to get one with wood finish
shop around for one with plenty of toys, steer clear of silver (last few times i've checked on merc site its all they have for sale is silver 63's)
and if you living and driving in town expect to get no better then 10mpg
apart from the above stonking car, even better on long journeys doctord on here / merc weorld who writes for evo could give you the best low down, infact i think his is for sale in the classifieds!

Dave, I am happy to answer any questions you have regardless of whether you choose to buy mine or not. It's a great car and my first Merc too (if you disregard the two Brabus Smarts I owned). Absolutely nothing has failed or given me cause for concern, meaning that I've only seen my MB dealer once when it went for its first service. Performance is laugh out loud crazy and has proven to be every bit as quick as an M6 and F430 until wind resistance comes to bear. The extraordinary discovery is that it can handle every bit as well it accelerates, and when we compared it to the Cayenne Turbo and Lotus Elise S at Bedford last year the only reason the ML63 didn't beat the Cayenne on track (it was behind by 0.5s) was because we could never fully switch its ESP system off.
The ML63 is built lighter than any other ML, with AMG replacing many of the suspension components with lighter and thinner bespoke items which in practice means that it never feels like it weighs more than 2 tonnes (we weighed it as 2.2 tonnes, some 160kg lighter than the Cayenne).
