sorry if it's been done before, but my 55 plate cls won't connect to my nokia 6300.
when the car finds the phone i punch the code into the command and it fails to connect.
am i using the correct code? which is the one i enter when the phone switches on, merc cust serv says this is correct but can't explain why it doesn't work.

Is it not just asking for a bluetooth code to pair with the phone?

I usually use 0000 on mine (not car, other bits and bats) then make sure the same is entered into the phone.

The number when you switch on your phone is usually just a security pin.

Have you got the Bluetooth HFP cradle?

If so there is a different bluetooth code that you have to enter that would be in the instructions and it is not 0000. I cannot remember it off hand but will look it up for you if you are struggling.

The bluetooth HFP code is 62872, or if you have the SLR cradle the code will be the long number that is displayed on the screen.

I assume you're talking about the bluetooth cradle ?

Have you actually had working it before ?

The number is very long, about 12 digits if I remember correctly and you have to backspace the code when it pops up on the Comand screen (assuming it is Comand and not APS50) to get to the start of the number.

Have a proper read of the instructions, every car is a slightly different set up routine.

the cradle is in the armrest slightly to the passenger side, not sure which this is but my car does have command, i did once see a long code on the screen but can't remember how we got it, not seen it recently, now just asks for a code but won't pair up.
thanks for help so far, just off to try the tips given......

ok it connects for 10 secs with code 62872 then loses it again, also the cradle thingy i have is not a cradle as such it is just a connector type plug in the armrest.

The HFP cradle will be black and quite short with a light on the top and and you can "click" the back down if that helps identify.

This is going to sound really stupid, and please don't think I'm insulting your intelligence, but have you definately got bluetooth listed on the spec? Even if it comes up on the display via comand I'm not sure it means its fitted? I'm sure I asked a similar question to yours 18 months ago, I'll try and dig it up.

i hear what you say, i bought it from a main dealer as having bluetooth, the command searches for connections and grabs my nokia for a few secs then lets go saying "not connected" on the screen, i'm pretty sure it is factory fitted.

OK, first of all it sounds like you don't have a bluetooth cradle, but you have pre-wire. that would be the i-pod looking connector.

you need to buy a bluetooth cradle, there are two types, standard which cost £250 or the SLR £350.

when you connect it to the arm rest, you hold down the star button for 3 seconds, it will then search for you phone via the command, once found, please highlight via the command buttons, this will then show a 16 digit code, write this down, it will the send a signal to your phone asking to pair up, put in the 16 digit code, and job done..

As has been said you don't have a cradle. The one I would recommend is the HFP cradle, I have the same phone as you and it works fine with every car I use it in (except the new C-Class). It is the cheapest, easiest to pair and is the most compatible with every phone.

To pair it, just press the button on it until the blue light flashes, then search from your phone for a bluetoth device, when it has found it enter the code 62872 on your phone and thats it; your phone will be paired, phonebook available to view etc.

Edited to say, may be worth checking on ebay to see whats available.
