I'm looking at buying my wife an ML320 2000 to 2002 plate, were there any factory recalls on these models? Are there any common faults to look out for when viewing.
The Cars have full MB service history and milage between 33K and 55K, I've spoken to MB and they are happy to go through the service history with me and highlight any issues with the specific vehicals.
Any help would be great

Common faults.... loads usually
Mine was appalling - when I had it it was 18 months old, 30k miles on it and had patches worn in the carpet, creaks rattles and groans from all round the cabin, folding mirrors that didn't, raucous thirsty motor, sloppy handling etc etc. Suffice to say it was the vehicle that put me off Mercs, have had BMWs since.
I know you'll find many folk who've had them and loved them, I'm just not one. Personally I think you'll find much better built cars for the money.

Have a good hard look at the interior, will you be keeping for a good few years as they are starting to look pretty dated already.
Make sure brakes have been done, that's an expensive job if it needs discs and pads all round. Big wheels can look nice but that's about the only advantage.
If you drive one you like, bury your right foot and it should boost off nicely. If it doesn't it needs a new air mass sensor.
If it has a detatchable towbar make sure the ball and key are there, they are expensive to replace.
Rear wheel carriers on the back door looked nice once upon a time, now it just screams 'Chelsea Tractor' and saps consumption on the motorway.
Tailgate struts fail.
Don't be fooled into thinking the 'Family Pack' (2 seats in the boot) adds any value to the car, the trade doesn't value it.
Make sure the switch pack around the gearstick works correctly, it comes as one complete expensive unit and they are a common fault.
I wouldn't bother with anything apart from silver or black.
HTH but I've gone off them of late.
