Out of interest, what has AMG contributed to it?

Keep a close eye on the oil level for the suspension on the old estates, can get costly if it leaks unnoticed.

Only other thing I can think of is make sure the belt tensioner and pulleys are all spot on and running correctly.

Some early AMG cars have modified engines, some don't. If the V5 says it's 2400 or 2600 cc it most likely has an AMG engine

If the car's new to you I'd do the following:

  • change the gearbox oil & filter (different oil for 4- and 5-speed boxes)
  • replace the front ARB bushes (£20 in parts)
  • check the front springs haven't broken
  • check the front ball joints very carefully & replace it there is any doubt over them (£13 each)
  • check the engine mounts aren't knackered
  • check the front prop doughnut for wear
  • check the diff bushes for wear
  • check the leading rear subframe bushes
