Thinking about a CL
Discussion
If they go wrong, they are expensive to put right.
Lots of toys with the potential to go wrong on old cars.
Just ensure any car you look at, all the toys do work properly.
The V8s are good mile munchers, and if serviced correctly shouldn't give any trouble. A full service history is a must. Even the youngest C140's are pushing a decade old, so ensure you've got a trusted MB Specialist to take care of it.
The bodywork shouldn't be rusty by now - I'm yet to see an example with any. The later design 18" alloys do suffer from laquer peel. We had ours powder coat refurbished for £50+VAT per corner.
I would recommend going for the post-96 facelift cars - identifiable by half red/hald clear rear light clusters, clear side repeaters and the added benefit of parking sensors front and rear. These examples have a differing internal switchgear on the centre console, compared to it's pre-facelift equivalent. Any age C140 example will be highly specced, though.
My parent's have a CL420. It's got 66k miles on the clock, and hasn't given any trouble in the 7 years they've owned her. It cruises like nothing else, as is extremely comfortable with it's optional Exclusive Nappa Leather
