Well after 10 years of various BMW ownership - I took delivery yesterday of a MB - ML320CDi Sport. I'm dead impressed - so far - just hope the honeymoon continues. I love the interior styling and the white instrument backlights. Been so used to the orange BMW glow.
I know the press rated the new X5 better than the ML, but having driven both back-to-back I (obviously) preferred the ride and handling of the MB. Plus - the V6 is certainley smoother than the straight six in my old 530.
And managed 31 mpg on a 150 mile round trip today.
Waiting 'til New Year and got a thousand or so miles on it, and will treat it to a DMS re-map! That should be even MORE fun!!
Cheers

Hi, we have a 320CDi and the only problem so far has been the gearbox. 12 months later and they are still trying to sort the problem. Because the new ML starts off in 1st rather than 2nd like the old model, it has a habit of kicking down into 1st at about 10mph. Bloody annoying and dangerous at junctions. Other than that, the car is a complete pleasure and we thought it drove nicer than X5. Not as sporty as X5 but more refined.

How much is DMS? What power increases?

Brabus chip fitted is £1500 approx, gives you 45BHP and doesn't affect warranty.

The only complaint about mine compared to the new X5 is that the BMW has better quality plastics inside. The ML's feel a little cheap in comparison, also the ML feels more fragile, although after 12 months of ownership mine still looks and feels like new.

Mind you, mine compensates with its 511bhp 6.3 litre engine, which the X5 doesn't have.. wink

The DMS remap adds 45 bhp plus lots of extra 'torques' (can't remember exact but was impressed) Cost is £850 - however I have spoken to another tuner who berated DMS as they dont set the car up on a rolling road - just do a 'cover all' remap chip.
The alternative remap is carried out on a RR so will be specific to that car. Cost £400 ish, between 10-15% increase in power plus 10% increase in mpg. Sounds too good to be true doesn't it!

Know what you mean about the change down from 2nd to 1st at slow speed - it is noticable (turning into drive way for instance.

Interior finish is good - not as much cow hide there as in the BM, can't gt full leather in the Sport - bizarre!

Still like it - still smiling!

I would certainly recommend the Brabus route just because of the warranty. Great cars and hope you carry on enjoying it....

Well just over two weeks of ownership - and today I got Tee-boned at a road junction! Luckily I'd only just set off on Green, when a youth on a scooter shot through on red, locked his front brake and dropped the bike - loads of witnesses verifying that the lights were very red, and I was in the right - no consolation to me. Scooter looked wrecked...the rider Ambulanced away with superficial wounds - BUT accordinging to the Police and a double check on an insurance verification web site - NO INSURANCE!
Oh bugger! Wheel, wing & door damaged. Wonderful - happy Xmas frown

Latest news - scooter rider taken to hospital, discharged himself before Plod arrived, now at large - details false. Registered keeper denies all knowledge of incident disposed of bike - so he'll probably be prosecuted as well for not keepng the DVLA informed? Meanwhile got to decide wether or not to pay for it myself or suffer the insurance hassle frown(

Don't know any details - Police won't tell me due to data protection act! Great isn't it! They reckon it could take upto 6 months to investigate/prosecute and probably 2 years to sort insurance! It's crap! Does make me think un-christian thoughts - like I wish he'd really hurt himself - Toe-rag!

Well that rules out issuing proceedings if they wont tell you who it is!!

I would pursue all avenues at thi stage and see if something "happens". Tell the police you insist they investigate it and, assuming you have notified your insurers, tell them the same thing.

Not sure where the registered owner of the bike stands but if he didn't report the bike stolen then surely he is well worth the police having a word and the prime suspect. If the bike wasn't stolen can't the registered owner be held accountable for the damage? I think he can but someone else will hopefully have the facts....
