I have a new UK RHD SLK 200 and live in Germany. I had my lights switched across from UK to Cont driving and was told it was a simple case of hooking them up to a computer.

The car was collected and tested and everything is fine, but I have now received the bill and it's 235 Euro (tax free). I have had several cars adjusted this way and some times they have not even charged me. So trying to get my head around why this time it is so expensive?

Would anyone know if it could be because this time I have the normal Halogen lights fitted instead of the Xenon? Can't speak to the garage till Mon.

Sounds strange, have a look in the owners manual - I'm sure it's a case of moving a lever in the back of the headlamp. Benn discusses here a few times.

Spoke to garage today and the main bulk of the cost was incurred due to the headlights having to be manually switched via a small switch on each light, according to the technician they are very difficult to get to. The fog lighs were a simple case of attaching laptop and switching.

What made it worse was I have spoken to friend since and they paid €28 to have theirs done all be it the Xenon lights which I imagine are switched via the laptop.

Turned up today to pay the bill and funny old thing the garage have reduced it by 130euro to a 105. I wonder what would of happened if I had not enquired about why it was so expensive?

It's still a completely ridiculous price.

Why isn't there just a simple 'UK-EU' switch fitted as standard to all European-spec cars?
