I realise the 2 above cars will probably be a very different driving experience but is there anything wrong with going for the AMG version apart from the extra cost?

Servicing, depreciation, road manners etc?

Thanks

The 63 would be my choice and should depreciate less than the 600. It behaves perfectly well on the road, it can give you a very quiet civilsed ride exaclty like the S600 if you want; but switch the suspension to sport mode and put your foot down and the noise/handling is phenominal.

The 600 is also an increadbly fast car but doesn't sound or feel it and is IMO a bit too similar to a 500/320.

Go for the 63, it is an awesome car that will do everything the 600 does but make you smile more!!

S63 were built for a very limited number , i assume you either mean S55 -which is quite common or super exclusive S65 which was replacement for S65

AMG, every time.
New Non-AMG Mercs are just too dull for words...

In Switzerland, the S65 AMG (long wheelbase) is still on the price list at almost 50% more than the S63 AMG (Long) !

If he's thinking about the previous generation (W220), then yes you are correct.

However the current W221 generation comes in a V12 S600 and a 6.3 V8 S63 AMG.

Thank you everyone for the advice. It's great you can ask pistonheads the most random question about 2 hyper barges who's numbers in the uk can probably be counted on your extremities and still get great advice.

Unfortunately this isn't for me, I'm still young enough to throw £100k at something a bit more sporty, but for a friend who really likes his Mercs and is looking for the ultimate S Class.

merc lists S600, S63(I assumed S63 was no longer available) and S65- can't see point in all 3

S600 and S63 similarly BHP of 500/510ish, comes in at about £100k. reason for both is the different handling characteristics and looks. Eg one aimed at "drivers", the other aimed at people who are driven?

S65 612bhp, moutain of torque, twin turbo V12, comes in at about £150k. The Daddy.

i see your point with 600 and AMGs , trouble is i've always seen a S600 as a "driven" car aswell(maybe because see loads of similar looking "driven" S320)
But should be either S63 or S65 - can't see need for both - "over-niching"

Get a run in a 65 and you'll know why they had to make it available for those mad enough to want it.

I was lucky enough to get a run in a SL65 at VMAX a few years ago. The engine is bonkers, sadly so is the price.

Depreciation is bonkers aswell -it loses the price of a new S320 -in one year!.Iirc only 20 a year sold in uk.
Seen on with reg 33EE
I mistakenly thought S55 was still i current shape (realized that S63 was its replacement)
