CLK 63 Black Edition (pics)

£103k seems just too much I'm afraid. I have an ML63 which cost just over £20k shy of that and there is a lot more too it. I've never understood Mercedes' pricing policy, of the '63 models there must be a span of over £40k between the cheapest and most expensive models (all using the same engine...)

The Black Series are special editions though. Like special order AMG cars of old (think 7.3 V12 and 7.0 V12 versions of the old SL/CL/S-Class, old shape W202 C55's and C208 CLK55 cabrios), they are always going to be ALOT more expensive, as you're paying for exclusivity. The SLK55 Black Series was around £90k, whereas normal SLK55's were around £50k. And the Black Series SLK didn't have a retracting roof!

I understand what Mercedes are trying to do with the 'Black Series' models, however there is still a very large price-span of models using the same engine. I can't think of any other manufacturer with a similar product strategy.
Point being that £80k would be pushing the boundaries for a CLK, but £103k makes it a straightforward comparison to a 997TT and I know which one would depreciate from such lofty heights the most.

I see what you're saying, and I agree £103k for a CLK is ALOT However, Mercedes seemed to use a similar strategy with the "55" cars. That M113 5.5 V8 24v has been used in so many Mercs now from C55 up to SL55. It's cheaper for Mercedes I guess
I guess the model will be bought by those people who probably don't care much for residuals Also, many will probably be locked away in private collections

The one on the right is obvious (and probably not road legal plus a bit crap for taking a passenger) but what about the one on the left?
E46 M3 V8 GTR. The race going version knocked out 444bhp I think and they produced about 10 road cars. I think they were de-tuned but obviously fit for re-tuning!Basically a CSL on steroids which is hard to imagine.

ah ha! cost? power?
They were 218K euro on release. Some info here. http://www.automotiveforums.com/t323442-e46_m3_gtr...the second poster gives good info. So 350hp at the wheels due to emissions. So 400 plus with a bit of trickery.

Isn't that more money for less power, then, compared to the CLK?
Well it's not really a fair comparison, I was a bit naughty in thread hijacking. It was just the money that startled me! I think these cars have the potential to depreciate badly.
The M3 GTR will, if sorted see 0-60 in well under 4 secs.... then there's the DTM which has got to be worth a look if you've got this kind of doh.
Nice car though.

"If sorted"... you can't compare a tuned car with a standard car released officially by a manufacturer. I am unclear about the point you're making, and you then compare a track-only racecar with a road car.
No - they are all road cars. I know it's a hazy point, but what I'm getting at is that 103k is a lot of money for a car that is only 'so' special.Gassing Station | Mercedes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
