300sl alarm problem

hi there,ive had my 300sl 93,for 4 months now and today i went to use the alarm fob and the alarm went off and all indicators was flashing very fast for about 5 mins.I tried again locking and opening the doors and every time the alarm went off for 30 seconds and the indicators flashed for about 5 mins.I dont know if this is coincedence but i have just bought a gps for golf not for the car.Can this interfere with the alarm system and what should i do?If i disconnect the battery and reconnect will this solve the problem?The fob battery is ok.thanks dave
