Hello,

Does anyone else have the Mercedes tyre pressure monitoring system (I have a 2002 SL55) with Brabus wheels fitted?

The system has always reported a warning saying "reactivate tyre pressure monitor", which is easy to live with, but recently started reporting an error saying "tyre pressure monitor - return to workshop". So, I dutifully returned the car to my main Merc dealer who I bought the car from, complete with tyre pressure monitor and Brabus wheels, two and a half years ago.

Now... they say that the system "would never have worked" because the pressure monitoring system is not compatible with Brabus wheels, so the best course of action is to simply disable the system. It may be pure coincidence that when a tyre pressure is low it shows a lower pressure number on the display, and more coincidence that inflation of said tyre will increase the pressure number on the diaplay, but to my knowledge the system has always worked fine!

I suggested to the dealer that they might want to deflate a tyre and check... but "oh no, we can't do that"... unbelievable. At the moment they're saying that they can't do anything other than disable the system to make the error "go away", i.e. rather than fix the problem. The car has an extended Mercedes warranty.

So, can anyone say whether there is a known compatibility problem between the standard tyre pressure monitoring system (as would have been fitted to a 2002 SL) and 19" Brabus Monoblock VI wheels?

Thanks!

Hi Marlon, I recently had an S600 with TPM's, they are little units attached to the inside of the valve, commonsense would tell they should work inside any wheel.

Thanks. The dealer has acknowledgedm, to their surprise, that the Mercedes TPM does indeed work with the Brabus wheels. Well fancy that. The mechanism is different (a sensor on the wheel, not on the valve) but it works fine. Picked the car up, no warnings or errors, and drove happily away down the road...

"Bing! Tyre pressure monitor - visit workshop!"

The tyre pressure monitors on standard wheels are powered by batteries, so if these run out, the TPM will fail.
Not sure if the brabus ones are the same
