Just looking through the classifieds (as you do) and I keep venturing across these monsters:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/235198.htm

Now, I've always quite fancied one. I'm not interested in buying the poncy 350 or 500, I want the full balls out 560SEC with all the toys, preferably in black for the full on criminal effect.

Fuel economy? Pah! Not really bothered. But what I am interested in is did AMG do a version? What are they like to drive and does anybody on here have one?

It's on my list of 'cars to buy sooner rather than later' anyway, so I thought I'd open it up to the PH massive and get your opinions.

I've got an old CL600 looking for a home in a minutefrown

Was an amazing £106,000.00 new in 1996yikes

I love these old teutonic barges, somthing about driving them that really cheers you up. It's like " OFF KEN LIVINGSTON!"

I'll second the yikes

I bet it's an awesome motor though! Basically I enjoy mooching about in big old luxo barges/coupes. It's why I fancy a nice 560 SEC or even one of those 6.9 litre SEL's!

It gives me great pleasure and a warm fuzzy feeling annoying the lentilists.

Hi Bob,

I have been looking for one for 3 months now. Fuel economy on a 560 will be approx 15-20 max. IMO they are just worth every penny but, and it is a BIG but, it seem lots of people over the last 3-4 years have bought these for the reasons you and I are looking for one (they look the nuts, they are classic and they go like stink) but did not budget for upkeep.
I have seen 8+ cars now and am constantly disappointed - either in the condition of the body/engine, or the big gaps in service history.

So good luck, but be warned there are some really unfortunate examples out there!

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous cars! lick

Yes they did an AMG version, but this was the time when AMG was separate to Mercedes. They are extremely rare to find, so you'd be paying through the nose if you ever found a genuine RHD factory example!

I think the 560SEC's are wonderful cars, just as mentioned above (i.e., go like stink, big, etc., )

Looks like AMG did one indeed:

The AMG 560SEC Widebody (found on google) looks ing beautiful: smile

Positive comments, cheers for the info.

I quite like the idea of a 6.0 AMG tuned one!

I've been looking as well and have had similar problems.

There is lots to look out for on these and repairs are not cheap so the tip is to get the best you can afford.

I belong to the MBOC and they have a detailed buying guide on these - if any one wants any info/copy PM me.

As for 6.9 SEL's I keep looking wistfully at this :

Hi again guys. I have looked at both of these cars too, certainly a couple of bruisers!

I'd love to get my hands on the cheaper one, but to be honest I just don't have the time to undertake a resto project with me being away most of the year (plus I'm also getting my M535 resprayed and overhauled so I need at least one car to drive!)

Egbert, I wouldn't mind a copy of the buyers guide if that's OK, I'll PM you.

Cheers again,

Bob smile
