190E 2.5-16 Cosworth
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a 190E 2.5-16. Im very very happy with it. I saw about 5 other cars before deciding upon this one. Its in stunning condition with all the options and some I have not seen before.
I hope to share some pics soon. It was worth the premium i paid. The weird thing is i have been looking for about a year now, but in the last few months the prices seem to have gone up?

That would be about right, I sold my Evo 1 about 3 years ago and that sort of thing happens to me all the time. Sold my CSL at the bottom of the market and now they are stable and going slightly up...
Good luck with the 16v, they are a lot of fun and built like brick sh*thouses just watch the injection system probably the cars only weak point now they are getting long in the tooth.

Hi guys,
Yes your right...The CIS K-Jetronic is VERY tempremental. Most people dont have a clue about them.
I am changing the air flow sensor and getting the fuel distributor rebuilt as a matter of course.
Everything else is up to scratch.
Will post piccies soon :-)
But yes, great great cars and worth every penny if you can fing a good one!

also might be handy if you're going to get down and dirty with that horrendous injection system. I feel for you. They have a rudimentary fault self-diagnosis.
Could you please do me a favour, and post back after you've had the distributor reconditioned?
bob-in-toon Powerwise i'd say it feels stronger than the lexus IS250 I tried, which probably isn't saying much. Mine seemed very weak low down until I had the engine rebuilt. Now, it has a wide powerband that can be very effective and enjoyable. The bottom end doesn't provide a surge of power like a modern turbo diesel, but the power band is so much wider and more fun on the open road. I just remembered I recently drove a '99 Impreza turbo and expected more from it - it felt somewhat better low down, and similar up top but a bit less happy up there. Feel and steering were better though! It feels much brawnier than a civic type-R, but a whole lot noiser, less smooth, and generally massively old school in comparison.
Outright performance of my 2.5 looks like this:
1/4 mile 15.6s and 90.1 mph
so it's either fast or slow, depending on what you're coming from!
The worst thing is at very low revs it vibrates, and it's always noisy and not that smooth.

Thanks for the help. Have had one front and one rear (?) engine mount just recently.. it was no better really.
Could be the other mount, but I'm certain it's not. I've had both mounts fail on my other 190E and know what it was like! :argh:. It's not that bad!

Mine does not vibrate at all.
Like Lagerlout said could be your mounts.
Mines an auto and i tried several manual cars and your right low down power is not great. The auto kinda masks this. Plus in the city its well suited.
Shocking to think that when new these cars were £42,000 in 1990. You could buy several houses in some parts of the country for that much!
PS: Thanks lagerlout for the great email. If you have that EHA doc that you mentioned on the rev id love to read and any other Info you may have! :-)

Try some of the suggestions in this place, good luck

Does anyone know of ant competent mechanics who know these cars in the London area please?
Thanks
Mechanics for the 'Cossies' are difficult to find, but the freindliest 190 Owner's community has already been revealed to you by Pentoman (Russ)! Thanks
Many many 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 owners frequent this wonderful resource daily, with write-ups and in-depth discussions on all the usual 16v owners concerns.
Plus a bit of fun, and a few nice pictures now and then...
See you there, hopefully.
Yeh Neil you must know a place or two - plenty of our old tanks in London, who's looking after them? Hmm actually the previous owner of my 2.0 automatic used to bring it all the way from London to Gloucestershire for work!!! Perhaps there are no decent garages in London?
If you're wanting the garage to do any sort of engine diagnosis-type work then a Bosch service centre is a major plus, the Bosch ESI system has detailed the circuit diagrams and specs for all 190 models. Hard work to do it on this old system though - I'd expect it to cost you especially in London.

The only positive experience I can speak of is with Ozzie Ryan, proprietor of HRE, 252 Shirland Road W9 3JF - 020 8960 7930 - 07770 934 999. He's done a lot of work on my 8v over the years, and also does work for that guy 'Enthusiast' (Roger) who has a 2.3-16 track toy over on the 190 forum.
But then Roger is soon to take the boat over to see Jesper about a VEMS conversion...
Ozzie's not cheap, but he is incredibly thorough and only ever uses genuine MB parts. Runs a couple of W124s himself, always a very good sign.
Also has the odd DB5, DB6 or Pagoda sitting around whenever I pass, so the calibre of client is pretty high.
I can't afford to see him very often!

Was the FD leaking fuel into the intake (was there a visible pool in the intake?)? Who fitted it all together after it was rebuilt? I've heard it can need loads of adjustment and stuff to get it working sweetly after an FD rebuild because everything goes out of adjustment - is that the case?
How much did the rebuild cost also?
Oh and which important bits on the CIS did you change?
Sorry for all the questions!
