I'm travelling to France from the UK this weekend. Anyone any idea how to adjust bi-xenon headlights on an SLK 55 AMG for continental driving ?
Thanks

I think, although not sure, that you need a dealer to do this for you. Not supposed to be difficult, but I've never had it done myself.

It's a nightmare job on the bigger engines (3.5/5.5) because of the space under the bonnet.

You CAN take it into your dealer but I've heard they've started charging for this now.

The change just takes the "top" off the dipped beam:

U.K: \_ \_

EU: _ _

Hope that makes sense.

Don't forget if you get the dealer to change them you'll also have to change them back when you come home.

I've been over to Europe 3 times, didn't bother changing them and had no problems with Le Plod or other drivers flashig their lights at me. I can only speak for Xenon lights though.

Beware! There is about a Guzmillion trillion volts, so this is at your own risk!!
If you remove the covers behind the xenon lamps, apparently right next to the bulb, there is a lever. Pressing this moves the location of a movable covering which removes the raised bit.

Thanks for the reply. The thought of ending up like a piece of charcoal is a bit off putting so I'm taking into the dealers to get it sorted. Unfortunately this dealer insists that you don't need to do anything as the beam on bi xenons is flat _ _ . Mine are definitly not flat \_ \_. Nice way of drawing it btw.

I have another problem which you may have come across, mine are self leveling. However, they frequently start out with the left one a lot higher than the right. If I stop the car and restart it then they level off again. Bit inconvenient to stop and start the car when it happens though. Any ideas ?

Cheers

As they are Xenons, I wouldn't bother getting them adjusted. The beam is very precise (unlike halogens) so foreign oncoming drivers don't get bothered by them. Trust me, I spent 3 months over there and didn't have any problems.

It seems as though there is something wrong with your self leveling system. On start up, mine just lift then settle at the right height. One shouldn't be higher than the other.
