As one who's been following your story on here, its great to see it round up nicely!

I'm not a huge fan of red interiors, but that 2-tone is gorgeous lick
How's about a trip to Brabus now for a "B9" engine upgrade, including a derestriction wink

May you enjoy it for many years to come! driving

Cheers guys!!!

I have had black before so am under no illusion as to keeping it clean smile I would never normally go for red interior but the two tone just looks great!!!

First impressions... the car is so solidly put together it feels incredible. Handles beauifully and the ride is silky smooth yet firm (I have sports suspension) . Engine note on acceleraion is a revelation - a meaty growl and I can feel how much power is waiting to be unleashed. I have a manual gearbox and it feels perfect - very positive feel to it and a nice short throw.

All in all my first impressions are incredibly positive. As it's my first ever Merc to say I am impressed would be a gross understatement.

He's not wrong. Why a manual?

Why not??

A manual in an SLK is a great gear-box and really transforms the SLK into a drivers car.

Mercedes have never been renowned for making decent manual boxes for years. I am finding this out to my cost with my A-Class at the moment.

The R171 SLK manual 'box is a gem, far better to their previous efforts.

As PK states - the manual box is a dream Short throw, firm action but wonderfully smooth and it works so well with the 350 engine. It's a sports car, and in my eyes they shold only come as a manual (but I know we are all different).

It's the reason I had to factory order and why I would not go for a 55! Although TBH the 350 has more than enough power...it truely is a wonderul powerplant!!

Apparently Merc have really turned the corner with the manual box on the R171 SLK, so the choice of gearbox is no longer down to just "can I afford the auto". That said, given how flawless the automatics are I'd still be inclinded to go with 7G-tronic.

Apart from the fact that I have seen a fair few posts on the SLK site stating that it's not as flawless as you'd like to think!!!

As I said though horses for courses!!!

As long as you never want to resell it..(kind of the opposite to Porsche tiptronic)

Stunning looking car and I love the colour combination.

I too far, far prefer the manual, particularly on the 350 and certainly the manual ones have not seemed to be a problem to move used so far as anyone who has driven one realises that it really is no longer an issue....

Don't really think re-sale will be too much of an issue; there are loads of auto's out there for sale at any one time and hardly any manuals. The limited choice should help keep the residuals in line with the auto's at least.

Not saying the auto is a bad gearbox by any means, it's just I think people are at last prepared to consider a manual Merc.

The voice of reason biggrin Thanks... and the weather has been so kind. I parked it to go for a drink for the first tiem yesterday and raised the roof for the first time. What a superb piece of engineering that is! Hats of to Mercedes - I never thought I would be a customer of theirs, but so glad I am!
