Has anyone got any thoughts or suggestions regarding taking out a Manufactures extended warranty i.e are Smart Roadsters reliable?

I had one for a year from new and didn't have any problems with it. Apparently there are roof seal issues with some cars, and I've heard stories of them needing a rebuild at 40k miles, but I doubt the latter would be covered by warranty.

As with all warranty decisions, it depends on how much they want for the extension.

iirc a smart warranty extension is iro £450. I'd go for a Warranty Direct job myself, it covers the same stuff for half the price. (neither will cover damage from water ingress though)

I imagine that if you've not experienced a water leak yet, you're not going to get one. Mine never had any leaks due to seal failure, and all the ones I've heard of were pretty much leaking from day one.

I think £450 is pretty much on the borderline, as it's quite a fraction of the car's total value, but then you're looking at MB main stealer labour rates if anything does go wrong.

Thanks everyone for your comments! This car is a Brabus Roadster with 9,000 miles on it. It is my girlfriends car and will do about 3,000 - 4,000 miles per year. It is just about to run out of warranty and has been faultless so far! Guess i just want reassured that they are reliable, my instinct is to do without a warranty due to the low milage. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
