Hi all,

After having owned a TVR for a year I'm finding the SL a little quiet for my taste.

I love the sound it makes but would appreciate not having to do 120 leptons to hear it!

Anyone got any advice?

Can't seem to find any decat options or similar.

Cheers

If you want more noise buy an SLK55!!!

Seriously, im not aware of a de cat pipe, but a free flow cat back exhaust, especially from someone like powerflow who would make it to your spec may be what your after for more noise but keeping it road legal at the same time.

Cheers Ben,

To be honest I don't want to be replacing AMG spec pipes etc with powerflow ones if you know what I mean.

I don't want it to sound like a boy racer car, its just eberyone else tells me it sounds amazing at full pelt but I can't hear a thing insdie the car! smile

I can see your point, but if you want more noise thats about the only way your going to get it, you cant replace the cat with a de cat pipe as the ecu reads before and after cat lambda readings. There are kits around to fool the ecu but im not sure if there would be one for your car.

The other option is to get someone to drive your car while you follow it in another car, then you can hear it all the time!!

take it to a good exhaust shop that works with stainless steel.

get them to remove the resonators and replace with straight thru pipe.

then go for a drive with the roof down so you get the full effect and everyone can see the big grin on your face biggrin

job done thumbup

Thanks for that Timberman.

The resonator removal looks like exactly what I'm after!

The torque event looks good, any idea where it is being held?

I've trawled through the pages but can't see a location?

Def interested. smile

My SLK320 is not exactly a AMG but I wanted that little extra grunt without the car sounding like a Corsa with a drain pipe and my local exhaust shop put sport cats on for me. Done the job nicely quite a few of the lads from our local runs have commented on the sound.

good on ya

i know that longbow ( organiser of the event ) was hoping for some v8 and v12 amg's, so i'm sure you'll be able to take part.

this is shaping up to be a great day out and with the amg contingent growing we even could have a mini merc meet on the side biggrinbeerparty

hope to see you there thumbup

I could have posted exactly this myself! Not meaning to sound thick (not difficult!) but what and where are the resonators? I'm off to JP exhausts in a few weeks and telling them what I want based on what you guys say on here would be most helpful.

I have seen 200 cell cats for sale at £450 a time, which must make a difference to noise levels, and supposedly keep it road legal.

I've heard the cell cats don't make too much difference.

I'm liking the resonator idea as it will still pass MOTs etc, no effect to CATs.

No idea where they are, I've been quoted £380 for the full job by merc performance, think renamed to CKS something now.

Judging by the MB forum thread, the resonators are the back boxes just in froint of the exhaust tips - I went to let JP exhausts have a look, and they said they were basically straight through boxes anyway. Then there's the "centre" boxes which sit just in front of the resonators, and apparently there's nothing else before the two sets of cats. So I think the resonators can come off definitely, have a listen and possibly then the centre boxes as well. I've been quoted £3-400 as well.

BTW, I've read some mutterings elsewhere about CKS performance and their, err, standard of work. Just a heads up biggrin

the resonators are straight thru boxes and just need replacing with a section of stainless pipe

it won't affect emissions!, I had mine mot'd back in feb with no probs thumbup

regarding price
when i had mine removed i shopped around and found a stainless exhaust specialist who did the job for £80 and it only took about 1 hour.
I only had 1 resonator to remove but it shouldn't be much more of a job to remove 2

as far as cks performance
as nubbin states they don't have the best reputation,
i've contacted them a few times myself on the phone, i've even been to their premises, (a small unit tucked away round the back of a industrial estate)and was less than impressed

this is by no means a difficult task and any reputable exhaust shop that deals with stainless piping should be able to cope, so its well worth shopping round to get the best deal

good luck driving

some good tips on here, not got the 55 yet but will be looking to do something with the exaust when I do, spotted this earlier scratchchin

http://www.supersprint.com/a_prodotti.asp?modello=...

i think the straight through resonators you are talking about can be bought seperately, dont know if they marry upto the OE equipment though.

Timberman, can you PM me with the details of who you used please? I'm not far from Mansfield (near Worksop), so it might be more easier for me to get to the guy you used.
