i went to get my new purchase checked out, 85 280sl, you may recall i think its the bargain of the century, having had 23k spent on the body.....it is beautiful and really drives perfectly ...except...over the rumble strips which people put near schools these days, the front suspension really makes some strange noises. and then you can fling it into a corner and car handles perfectly...i have had a look and everything looks ok under front suspension. also, compared with my last 280, she feels a bit slow.. so i brought her to george fraser today, and he is snowed under. he had a quick look and spotted some oil in engine bay and within seconds suggested that i bring it back next week, usually a sign that he expects something major with the car...so, anyone know of any other sympathetic merc specialists near me (berkshire)...and the big question...because i am starting to think the vendor who sells a car he has just spent big on and moves it for little knew something i didnt.so i am thinking the worst. 280sl engine rebuild...expensive? i realise thats an expansive question but having had old 911's and ferrari 348 i am just checking with the cognescenti that hopefully these cars are nowhere near the costs of my other beasts. heres hopefully.
