SLK350 Euro Tour
Discussion
Just got back from week long driving holiday round Europe. Took the SLK to Geneva, Lake Como and Monaco and it proved a surprisingly good GT as well as an entertaining sportscar on the Alpine passes. I averaged 30mpg over the 1,500 miles (even with some serious speeds through France and Italy). All in all, I can't speak highly enough of the car.
Anyone thinking of taking the plunge with one shouldn't think twice, just do it!

Sounds cool!! I'm picking mine up from Bremen in August so will get some good Euro miles on her straight away!!!Anyone thinking of taking the plunge with one shouldn't think twice, just do it!
I did a similar trip in mine.
Normandy, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Biarritz, Carcassone, Monaco,Florence, Sienna, Lucca, Elba, Aosta, Mont Blanc, Epernay.
Like you I thought the car was a wonderful euro tourer. The boot isn't even that bad altough using rigid bags is a bad idea. You have to remember to decant your clothes into a bag before you reach the hotel though otherwise you have an embarrasing 10 minutes in central monaco whilst the valet waits while you pack your pants out of the boot and into the bag!
I only got 22mpg on that trip though and I had a manual! You must have a very light right foot. I got up to 145 in italy before the wife got nervous! 135 in France with the roof down.

Hmm, maybe my 30mpg result says more abour me than the car (although I was giving it a bit of stick at times)!Normandy, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Biarritz, Carcassone, Monaco,Florence, Sienna, Lucca, Elba, Aosta, Mont Blanc, Epernay.

I made the mistake of packing a hard case which, together with a couple of squashy bags (and a suit carrier for the Monaco casino) meant I could go top down as the luggage cover thingy wouldn't close

I showed my wife the space she had with the luggage cover in place. If the luggage cover didn't close the car didn't move
Also had the side benefit of reducing shopping to a minimum. Sorry no space, need to save that for tuscan wine and 'fresh' champagne!
