When I bought my 6 month old SL55 (2005) with 3000 miles on the clock, the dealer fitted new brake discs all round to cure the brake judder. 1 year and 6000 miles later the judder is back, albeit I will confess that the brakes work well, pull up straight, and below 80mph there is no judder. It is when braking from speeds (harumph) 'above 80' that the judder is apparent, especially under light braking. The discs look fine, no signs of cracking or similar physical defect, plenty of meat on the pads. Although the car doesn't do a high mileage, it is used 'properly' when I drive it every week, so I don't think lack of use is the issue.

Before I go back to the dealer, anybody got any thoughts? Are any of the aftermarket brake kits (eg Rossini) any good or any better? Thanks, in anticipation.

Hi Mh, your discs if fitted buy a main dealer have a 2 year warranty, although checking for the judder would be fun!!
Try giving them a series of Big stops,on the private runway, and see if they improve.

Mark.

Did a few big stops (on the private runway!) before posting the original note, and definitely better once hot, but the judder soon returned. However, now I know that the new discs should still be under warranty, my revisit to the dealer will be easier to stomach! Many thanks

See if they improve, or more likely, get worse.

You will meed a mag mounted dial guage to check the disc run out, i have access to Merc figures if you want them.
