All,

I am emigrating to Australia in a year and over there 2003 model CL55s are circa $AUD200K (or about £80K). You can buy a 2004 model here for about £35K and ship for around £20K including heavy tax, but that would leave you with a great motor and depreciation free driving for a few years.

My question is whether anyone knows how I would go about a MPH to KPH conversion on the clocks?

I would also appreciate details of any experiences membes have had with importing cars from the UK into Australia.

Thanks,

Marcus.

Don't newer Mercs have the option to digitally display km/h, as well as the standard needle speedo?

I used to deal with a trader who took R129's down under, If I remember correctly it wasn't worth doing unless it was over 5 years old due to tax reasons.

A new dash cluster will cost in the region of £800 plus coding the thing too. There is a recall out on them at the moment, do you know if yours was affected ?

Not 'the option' - it's permanently displayed on UK cars, which is a right pain, as it often replaces the outside temp display. Apparently MB thinks it's the law in the UK that MPH & KPH have to be displayed at the same time - it's generally done in most cars with dual marked speedo's, but MB's don't have that, so KPH is displayed separately.

I don't know this for sure, but I'd be gobsmaked if the cluster can't be programmed with Star Diagnose so the speedo reads KPH rather than MPH.
