Friend of ours recently bought a new CLK and while at the garage their daughter (19yrs old) asked if they had any sales jobs. She currently works for a large travel agent, but has always been interested in selling cars.
They rang her on Monday asking if she'd be interested in becoming a trainee. She passed an online test, and a first interview, and has been asked back.

Does anyone know what they are likely to offer her wage wise, and how long she would be a trainee for?

Don't know - I'm guessing family or local(ish) group owned.

Trainees usually are on a guaranteed wage to stop them earning nothing whilst they learn the trade, usually £1500 or £2000 per month depending on age / experience.

Once they reckon she's ready to go the salary is likely to be £10k and 10% of profit in the car. A company car is the norm too although at 19 it will depend on the dealerships insurers, some are funny about under 21s.

Feel free to contact me through my profile if you need any more information about working in the trade, or at a mercedes dealership.

Thanks for that - I think she'd be blown away by £1500-£2000/mth at 19!

They've told her she will get a car after completing training, although maybe they intend for her to be a trainee until she's 21!

Think thats got to be a typo? Why would they give a trainee £24k?

I was on what Mark mentioned, lasted 6 months before working every weekend and never knowing what my day off would be took its toll.

IIRC under 21 I was insured on anything upto 2.6lt.

If its a Merc dealer,then her training will consist of making sure she

1) never returns phone calls;
2) never owns a customer issue and bats off any critisism of the product by saying "yes sir they dont make them like the old W124s".
3) can keep a straight face when presenting a totally equipped car at 30% more than any of its competitors and then explain that Mercedes have very strong residuals and are in short supply
4) did I say, never return phone calls...

5) Saying "rust sir, Mercedes don't rust" despite standing in front of a W210 that resembles a swiss cheese.
6) Valuing your part ex by taking £3k off Glass's Guide trade price, then denying they ever said point 3) above when you ordered/purchased it
