My car will be coming up to 3yrs old in not too distant so enquired with local Merc garage about extending warranty. Was informed that to extend for 1yr on SL65 would be £1175 p.a. BUT that Service Plus was only £830 pa (monthly DD) and included all servicing costs and even wear'n'tyre items like discs/pads (but excluding tyres, though there is an option to add that too!).

Obviously a no-brainer to go with Service Plus but is there a catch? I asked two Merc garages if covered me for extremes, like engine blowing up, as I would expect the warranty to and they said yes.

Am I missing something as seems too good to be true with some expensive parts on 65's?

There are quite a lot of comments on the MB forums about ServicePlus – see particularly http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread

I have a concern that it’s specifically worded to cover servicing plus wear and tear items. However in practice it does seem that MB is being very broad in their interpretation of 'wear and tear' – basically they do seem to be covering items that fail too. My concern would be that if (say) the engine ECU failed then MB might say that is a catastrophic failure (rather than becoming worn out) and therefore not covered by ServicePlus, but then I guess you could say that an MB shouldn’t fail in the first 5/6 years and could expect that MB would replace the item anyway.

They do seem to have upped the rates recently – it looked very cheap when it was first introduced – but as long as the cover is broad then increased rates are preferable to having claims denied.

Thanks for response and link - had a good read through all the pages and seems positive in terms of covering general failures too. <famous last words>

I'll ask about it once again at the Merc garage, before signing on the dotted line.

Cheers.

If it's a UK supplied SL65, MB do quite often put forward a decent chunk of 'goodwill' contribution towards claims after 3 years, esp. if the claim is a 'known problem'.
