Hi everyone,
I am a new MB owner as came over from the dark side they call BMW.
I have a couple of questions reference my CLK320, it is a late 2000(W208). The car was not fitted with a cd changer and I cant stand the radio on motorway journeys. I bought a MB changer, Fibre optic lead and power harness and just need to connect it all up. MB have told me it is not something that can be done by anyone other than them and want £300 to do this, is this info correct or are they just trying to do the typical garage thing of ripping off a female. As far as i can tell there are only three wires but only two have connectors and the other (blue) is bare. Can anyone help. Another question is a backlight has gone on the dash can I do this and where can i get a bulb.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shell!
Welcome to PH, and indeed Mercedes Ownership!
RE: Your question - I'm not that technically minded, however I wouldn't use the dealer! Try to find a decent local Merc Specialist. They should be able to fit it, at half the price, easily! If not, try a decent local audio specialist? Mercedes aren't the only ones who can do it, they are certainly trying on the "only we can do it" rip off!

Another place you may want to try is www.comand.co.uk/
Very helpful, know their stuff and will tell you straight if it can be done or not.

Many thanks Darren will see who I can find. I have been told about a place called Braybrookes who apparently specialise in retrofitting audio to MBs so will see.
Braybrookes I've heard of! They advertise in Mercedes Enthusiast, and had an article in there, regarding their work. Very reputable company
Although I've not used them myself, I feel I should mention.

Many thanks to both of you I have just contacted Braybrookes and will hopefully have a quote soon. Will probably be back asking if the money is in the right ball park.
Off the subject....does the club have meetings or get togethers so we can ogle all those cars that put our own to shame. If so where, when and would i just be upset by all the nice blocks on show?

Merc Owners Forum have occasional meetings, one coming up in Somerset in the next few weeks. Also a Scottish one happening soon.
You *may* have to join to read the board (can't remember sorry) but it's free and there's some good info there.

Also, The Mercedes Benz Club hold annual Concourse events, and regional pub meets once a month. I'm not sure about your local one though....
As for PH meets and events, there is a full calender of stuff, all over the country, and usually regional pub meets, too. I'd just browse the forums, as see what's happening in your area - Most of your life will now be spent, here on PH
