Hi all,

I'm considering buying an in dash screen mainly for sat nav, can any of you recommend one? I'd like to keep it OEM if possible but if there's a particularly good double din I may be tempted.

Cheers,

Mike

You could retrofit COMAND in your CLK. Ultimate OEM I've done it to mine. Cost was about £800 (s/h unit), although a MB dealer will either tell you it's impossible or the cost will be c.£2k.

Pretty easy to do on a 208, easier still on a facelift. If you're happy to source and install a unit, have a search on the MBClub website for HOWTOs (or post back here, and I'll get you the links).

If you're not happy about sourcing a COMAND unit, or about taking your car apart, give Mark a call at comand.co.uk. He'll sell/fit a COMAND unit for you for a very reasonable cost.

It's not quite a double din hole I'm afraid.

Best bet is fire an email to the experts - www.comand.co.uk/

Awesome, thanks guys. Whats the merc command system like? Does it have a colour screen or is it just a voice using the computer behind the steering wheel?

I would also recommend www.auto-technic.co.uk/command.cfm - I was quoted £4000 by my local dealer and turned out the dealer uses these guys and I was charged quarter the cost by going direct.. MB Dealers eh..

Not so sure ... can you trust a company that can't even spell COMAND properly

Mike, COMAND has a colour screen (5" IIRC) that shows, in NAV mode, either a moving map, or direction arrows and distance to next turn. Voice commands inform you of next item which come out of your speakers (the audio source volume is reduced whilst the instructions are voiced). A Google images search on 'comand' will return lots of images showing you various installations. COMAND in a CLK is COMAND 2.0.

well spotted - well from experience you can trust them, I watched them do the install and they had 3 other cars there at the time, they do the installation for nearly all (if not all) the MB dealers in the country.
