Nice one!
No surprise it is a factory order with a spec like that, last time I had a customer wanting a manual 350 there wasn't a single one in the UK, not built, unsold, at dealer, at port, nothing.
You've got a cracking motor there, when my customers SLK350 manual finally arrived from the factory he was thrilled with it.
The only additions I would make are the dealer fit iPod adaptor and a tracker Horizon.
I would echo comments about factory collection, my customers who did this said they were really well looked after and it was a great trip. It doesn't cost you anything and you will still be able to take the car on Sept 1st, pick it up the week earlier in Germany, drive it home on german trade plates (supplied by MB which cover you for registration, tax and insurance for 10 days). When you get the car back to the UK at the end of August you drop it into your dealer who will PDI it again, valet it, put the UK plates on and the RFL and hey-ho, come 1st September you smoke out in your clean and UK legal car.
Hope you enjoy it

Great idea on the factory collection (you and Steve-P) - will speak to dealer about that. You are right about it being factory order - my dealer spent a day looking for a manual and it did not exist anywhere so I know it will be special. I will also talk to them about tracker.
Couple of questions:
1) I hear that it's about £400 for the iPod system so not sure if I should have traded that off against the 6 CD stacker! Do you think I should?
2) I am wondering if I should go with Bi-Xenons as well with washer? Any advice - are they really that good?
Thanks
Gary

On a spec like that Xenons are a good addition, they are much nicer to use. Also headlight washers come with the xenons so you don't have to pay for both.
I would be happy with just iPod rather than CD changer but that is personal preference.

I'd second the Xenons - once you've driven a car with them, you won't ever want to be without them. Sounds a great spec! Congratulations - bet Sept 1st can't come soon enough!
The one aspect of all the options that I was disappointed in was the lack of 18" wheels. The only option seems to be the AMG's which I do not personally like. I went with the 17" 10-spokes as I think they look great (and I guess they will give a more compliant ride although not bothered about that too much) but why no other 18" option with lower profile tyres? The ones on the sport look great but that's not available on the 350. Are there any wheel options I am missing!!!!

You could get some Brabus one?

Have you considered dropping most of the options and getting a "basic" SLK 55? You'd get the body kit, better AMG alloys and climate as standard. Can't be far off the price, when you factor in the cost of Designo kit, and it should hold it's value much better.
Just a thought.

I did consider the 55 BUT I am more than happy with the performance of the 350 and really want a manual gearbox!

I wouldn't bother with the CD changer. It takes up most of the glovebox, and there are better solutions. Either the iPod kit, or you can just burn 1,000s of mp3s onto a DVD and play them in COMAND - that's what I do.
I cancelled it this morning for the same thoughts...there's not much storage space as it is AND all my CD's are on my iPod so might as well get the iPod kit.
Some of the other stuff that's fairly useful on a day to day basis is the tyre pressure monitor which has alerted me to a slow puncture and costs very little, rain sensing wipers, auto dimming mirrors, and folding mirrors (which not only keep them out of the way when parked, but give you a visual confirmation that you locked the car if they are set to auto-fold). The perspex wind blocker is cheaper as an option on a new car than when buying it as an accessory and it's quite effective, and a lot nicer than the standard mesh - and you can leave it fitted the whole time if you want. The memory function for the seats/mirrors/steering wheel is handy on occasions but not especially useful unless you have more than one driver, or you have a restricted exit from the car inside a garage - in which case you can set one position for normal driving, and another with the seat right back and the wheel out of the way to make it easier to crawl out.

I had to draw the line somewhere so not bothered about folding mirrors or auto dip mirrors or auto sensing wipers - I think I can do that myself Memory stuff is sandard ion the 350.

Excellent stuff!
Manual 3.5 V6....The best combination in the whole R171 SLK range, if the magasine write-ups are anything to go by!

Seconded........
By the way, which AMG wheels did you not like?
I was insistent on the 5 spoke AMG wheels, as I feel they, combined with the bodykit absolutely make the car. Although I know that it is all down to individual taste.
Xenons are a revelation. Drove a car the other week which did not have them and commented to my passengers that I thought the lights were poor. They thought they appeared OK. It must be that now being used to the Xenons. I noticed such a difference.

There is only one AMG wheel option - the 5 spoke. They just don't do anything for me (although I may go to the dealer and have another gander). However I am not too enamoured with the 10-spoke 17 inches I have gone for - nice design but a little small and tyre profile too large. They were only a £185 option as apposed to the £1200 of the AMGs so I feel I may be in the market for some aftermarket wheels before long. I think the wheel options for Mercs is a little lacking
