I went to get my mrs a ML or 4x4 as the family car and we have ended up with a 1998 one of these/. Lovely car to drive and as I drive on long journeys if we go anywhere... all the better esopecially as its replacing a VW Bora diesel!!!

Has anyone got any advice regarding these cars and views.

thanks simon

Superchip it, destrestrict it (can be done for about £350), then take it to the Autobahn! driving

Seriously though, they're great cars. Just watch for rust by the sunroof (if fitted), around the boot lock, wheel arches, and under the doors. If you see this, take to your local dealer as its a warranty repair, which thye should honour. Alloy wheel deterioration isn't covered, however.
They shouldn't have major problems until well after the 100k mile mark.

Hope you enjoy her!

Awesome car, and excellent value. It'll eat tyres if driven hard though, and has a rather significant thirst for fuel. What colour is it (including the leather)?

I'd echo the warnings about keeping an eye out for body corrosion. Two of my friends have W210 E-Classes and both have had rust problems.

One of them always takes it to the main dealer, and consequently not only did they replace all the affected panels gratis, they actually instigated the whole thing by checking under the seals etc. on their own initiative during a service and pointing out the corrosion to him!

The other guy didn't take it to the main dealer, and thus still has a rust problem on all the wheelarches.

The rust problem is due to Merc taking up water based paint without too much testing.

Just insepct the car as you would any other and I am sure you will buy well.

Also get the autobox oil changed, it will costly, but may save the gearbox for much longer.

i had a w210 estate that had rust starting around all of the edges, front wheels arch lips, tail gate around number plate lights and every stone chip was starting to get rust underneath it, that seemed to be spreading under the paint. It also drove like a large blamonge on wheels with no steering feel, i dare'nt think what a very quick one would be like to drive.

That's a standard sprung car I'm guessing? AMG thoroughly reworks its cars, so it can handle the power.

Ultimately though, its still a Merc, so it'll never be a driver's car, and not so good in the bendy bits

Its silver with the cream and blue interior. It feels spot on to drive and qute sharp and responsive. I enjoyed the test drive and I'm used to Supra's, Skylines and the ike designed to go quick and handle well.

I went to see a black one in Wheelton motors and the difference between the two cars was unbelievable. Thatwas a dog with bad brakes, handling that rattled and didn't feel as sharp... so touch wood we have a good one

The mrs doesn't drive too quick so hopefully won't be filling up every day although I think I'll use that in the evenings if I go out with my mates cos they moan about the space in The Supra!!!

Cream and Blue interior, eh? That must be a rare option. Most where either black leather, silver/black or silver/anthracite (dark grey).

When you have the chance, can we see some piccys, please?

Enjoy her! driving
