Anyone have any opinions on the R-Class. Wife has a CLS 320Cdi at the moment which is lovely but starting to find it a bit small for family duties. The R-Class seem good value at 1 year old, any good or bad points, I did hear they haven't sold particularly well, any valid reasons why? Any dealers on here have any?

I assume though that the 3rd row fold flat to increase space? Also am I right in saying that they were all Auto's? Would probably want a 320CDi.

I work for a Merc dealer and am currently using an R320cdi as a demo, I must say that it is probably one of the most comfortable cruising cars I have ever driven (mine does have airmatic though!); it has got a nice driving position not too high.

I think the main reason for them not selling too well is the lack of practicality, if you take 4 passengers someone has to sit in the back row, but I guess as your driving a CLS you are used to just having 2 seats in the back.

It is worth noting that at the moment Mercedes aren't making any cars, the rumours are that they are converting it to a 7 seater to give it a bit more diversity. This is going to have a massive effect on the residuals of the 6 seater models. But having said that there are some fantasti deals to be had on ex-demo and 1 year old models at the moment.

Hope this helps,

Mat

No, just slide forward a little. They are mainly for exec transport, huge, but with no space. A very strange vehicle.

They were offering discounts of up to £8k off of a new R320cdi and £14k off of an R500 at the end of last year to try and sell some residual stock. So you should expect at least £12-15k off of an R320 for a 6-12 month old car. Although depending on the miles you are doing you could consider an R500 as they are fantastically smooth and a bit of a bargain.

Cheers, so any dealers on here want to mail me with what they've got?
Basic spec will be 320cdi or maybe a 500,SE model, command, added bonus points given for darker colour Memory pack, 2nd row console,Pan-roof, Auto-Dim mirrors,Rear entertainment , privacy glass etc.
They must have been hideously overpriced at the launch, as they seem unbelievable value now for a 6/12 month old. Found one 500SE that I've worked out to be £25,000 less than its original list price in 12,000miles! Surely they have to bottom out at some point?
Any comments?

I've only ever seen two - I'm surprised that it doesn't have a 2/3/2 seating arrangement to be honest... The Vision GST Concept also looked a lot nicer IMO.
