W124 500E / E500 LHD wanted any condition
Discussion
Visit 500E.com, they sometimes have some for sale, though mainly in America.
The problem I had when I was trying to find mine was that you can't guarantee a history as well as you can in the UK. I paid top whack for mine £9500 for a 174,000km 91 Car and am more than happy with the condition.
I hope you find one as they are truly fantastic cars.
Dave!

Any rust at all, then walk away, these cars just simply don't rust if they have been repaired or treated right.
The engine should have at least 1.5Bar when warm in my opinion, dropping a bit lower when very hot. As soon as you see 1500rpm you should see 3 bar plus, whatever the temp.
The brakes aren't the best, a rumbling pedal is not always warped discs, sometimes gentle driving sorts this out.
They do run warm, so seeing the temp close to 100°C in traffic with the Air-Con on is normal. It should settle to about 90 on a cruise though.
The changes aren't silky smooth, but they don't jerk at all and it is a very strong box, obviously check the fluid on the box.
The rear suspension is self leveling, any groans or sloppiness in the rear end is a bad sign, spheres are £75 each from merc though and this will generally fix the problem, if not though then the rear struts are £2000ish each from memory.
At speed it will track very straight, slightly dead steering at the straight ahead but it simply does not understeer, loads of front end grip, a stable front end and very confidence inspiring.
The engine should be smooth from tickover to the limiter at 6300rpm. These will comfortably pull to the limiter in top (162mph) and get there surprisingly quickly.
There is a wiring issue with some cars in warmer countries, the front wiring harness shorts due to save the earth style wiring insulation and these engines do run very hot in the bay, as you would of seen there just isn't the space for it.
I get around 20mpg on average with mine and during a 3 day, 3160 mile journey across europe with long periods at 140mph, it worked incredibly well, just took it all in its stride.
Mine is having a few bits done, all surprisingly cheaply too, all suspension parts will come to about £500 for example, all brakes to around £300.
Any more questions then fire away.

If you're not too bothered about price, it could be worth visiting these 2 websites.
MCP Motorsport will source you a car and import it for you. This company is based in North Norfolk.

Also try Classic Benz Limited, based in Lancashire. They have had 4 E500/500E's through their showroom recently, and another is listed as "coming soon".
