How much would I get for selling this ? Is it worth it ?
Discussion
Hi - My boss is moving over to the US very shortly and as such eeds to get rid of his car smartish. He is offering it to me at a trade price of £7000-7400. Is it worth me taking it off his hands and selling it privately? What should I be able to get for it ?
2000 X-reg
74300 miles
CLK 230 Kompressor Avant-garde
Auto Tip Box
MP3 Player/Cd/Radio
Full Service History
Is it worth my while? - I guess it will cost me about £100-150 to sell it after getting insured for a short time and putting it up in the PH classifieds / Autotrader....
Thanks
Ben

Parkers web site says:
230K Avantgarde 2d Tip Auto 2000/X
Average mileage 60,000 miles
Original Price £29,375
Franchised Dealer £9,535
Independent Dealer £8,885
Private Good £8,380
Private Poor £6,500
Part Exchange £7,370
Mileage is a little high but doesn't look too bad a deal, if it's a popular colour with climate control and leather of course.

Tansanite blue with grey leather will be ok on an avantgarde....silver is preferable.
I would say buy it for 6 months and you might see a small profit out of it. Market is chocker of old CLK's though. If it looks chippy and tired I would think twice, trust me, spec and condition is the king when it comes to old merc's.

Work out for sure what its going to cost you.
What do you drive?
This is what I would do in my circumstancesOld cars with stiff suspension)
Secure my own car; transfer the policy over to the CLK, and use that over the summer, taking in some road trips.
Resell at the start of winter(if I can bear to part with it)
Worse case scenario, you break even, and get the use of a CLK over summer

I was looking to sell it immediately (I'll stick with my 911) and was thinking of getting my boss to sign the ownership slip and then I will just fill out the rest under the name of the person I sell it to. This would avoid an extra owner being added to the car and give a quicker turnaround. Hopefully, I can buy for £7k and then sell privately within the month for about £8-8.5k ?
Hopefully the potential buyers won't hink it is dodgy as long as I explain what's happening and maybe get my boss to also write a note to that effect.
