2000 E320 CDI Saloon

Chaps - my Dad's thinking of trading the above car for another new one...and the dealer has offered him such a p/x lousy price for it that I told him I'd buy it and run it as a daily driver. He's had it from new and it's done 47,000 miles in that time. Absolutely spotless it is.

However, I drove it the other day....and there's a sort of quiet mechanical clattering noise when you accelerate. Now I know it's a diesel but I'm sure it didn't do it when it was new. Anyone heard this? it's very hard to explain what a noise sounds like!!
