hi everyone,

I'm a 23 year old student in journalism... I had my exams in january but they were a bit of an agony...

a friend of mine called me to ask if I liked to see some cars... I had to say no twice and now am suffering of a bit of a trauma... I guess you fellow petrolheads would understand it...

When my friend called to see the first car I had to study for a rather important exam... He turned out to be drivig a new, mildly tweaked, 997 Turbo... ouch... that hurt.

Three days later he called me when I was having an exam... I called him back to hear he was driving 'a merc convertible'... knowing the cars he is used to encounter I knew it would at least be an AMG...

but my god, what have i missed...

An SL 65 AMG... damit :-( I missed out on 612bhp, 1000NM and some 250.000 euros...

if some of you would like to see it spin:

I will try to put some pics on the net because in black paint, with black rims it really is ... mmm... nice!

btw... sry Merc-fans... honestly I would prefer the mildly tweaked 997 Turbo... it may only have around 550bhp and some 800 NM... it doesn't have to carry two tons around and knows how to go around a corner as well as in a straight line :-p

grtz!

yeah, still a student... but starting an internship at an automotive magazine in a few weeks...

their opinion on the SL65 AMG: "almost as good as a turbo"...

a few facts:

SL65AMG= 2035kg, 612bhp, 2wd, o-100kph: 4.2sec, 22.2sec, 250kph (360 derestricted)

standard 997 turbo= 1585kg, 480bhp, 4wd, 0-100kph: 3.9sec, 0-1000m: 21.5sec, 310 kph

I'll let you guys do the thinking: what does a tweeked turbo do?

(hint... goes faster: e.g. Techart 997 turbo: 580bhp, 1592kg, 0-100kph:3.46s, +330kph for aprox. 50.000 euro less)

btw: these are some lap times from Evo mag @ Bedford: Turbo does it in 1.23.55, SL AMG (ok a 5.5) in 1.29.30... don't think the 65 AMG will be 6 secondes faster...

It's easy to laugh with someone's age, it seems harder to stay focussed on the facts...

grtz!

nevermind... the sl remains a truly awesome car...

as they say in french: "les gouts et les couleurs ne se discuttent pas" By which i mean: the reactions would've been different if I posted in the porsche-section.

nonetheless... I hope you guys like the pic's:

Cars are about more than numbers on paper. I came out of a 997S into an AMG merc, so i have practical experience of owning both. They are very very different cars.

... a bit like trying to compare Elle McPherson and Kim Basinger by only looking at the "vital statistics" rofl rofl rofl

you're right about that, but I wonder: who's bassinger?

btw, intresting what happened with your 200SX in your twenties ;-) I did about the same a good year ago with an A4 :-))

maybe you were right about the age bit ;-)
