96 is right on the cusp of the engine change over. If its the 3.2 straight 6, its the same engine as I have in my E-Class, and doesn't have a belt - its a chain, which shouldn't need replacing for hundreds of thousands of miles.

If its the V6 engine, I'm not sure, although most cars I've acrossed, who use a cam belt have it changed at ~60k miles.

I don't think any Mercedes has a cambelt?

The chains can stretch and get a bit rattly with very high mileages, but they don't generally break.

I was under the impression that the V6 was chain driven. Please advise if I am wrong.

Thong, you stated "ok,just get the serpentine belt changed at around the 48k mark and the top ideler roller" My SLK320 has coverered 27,000 miles however, it is now nearly seven years old. Reering to milage x age should I get them changed earlier do you think? The car is still running on its original Pilot tyres which I think is amazing.

Was advised by MB (Bolton) on the last service to change my poly belts.(serpentine thing & blower I assumed)

Only done 29,000 but just 4 years old. They said it's an age thing. I said leave them alone, but it's down as an advisory. They'll be done by an indie eventually.

Regarding the tyres, I'd be really tempted to chance them at over 7 years old....just a piece of mind thing.

it's quite low milage,i dont think there's going to be any issue with it at this milage,so drive and enjoy,

Dale.

I fully understand what you are saying however, I check the tyres at least weekly and its very rare that I need to add/deflate any air to the recommended pressure. The car is garaged whilst, not taken out if the weather is crap. The front are coming to the end of their life span now though and, will be changed accordingly.

Dale, thanks for the advice mate.
