something strange has happened.
the driver side mirror (just the mirror, not the housing) on my c230 k (2000) has cracked and is leaking a green liquid.
now i figure that the side mirror is heated and it has been ridiculously cold here (-13 f and thereabouts) and i went on a short drive after letting it warm up as usual so im guessing it cracked cuz of the hot and cold, because i dint hit anything.

Anyone seen this before? Anyone know how much it should cost to replace?
Anyway i can prevent this happening again??

Cheers

You have an auto dimming wing mirror, and the 'auto dimming gunk' has leaked out.

A new glass is in the region of £200 + Vat, but a normal heated one without the auto dimming feature will be £45ish + Vat.

Only just found this (hopefully not too late)

Keep the messy stuff off the paint as it will damage it.

Had this happen to a friends E, as per above it will stain the door and at the time the auto dimming glass was £150+vat. Find someone helpful with a company car and do a swop....

Ok...it's been a while and i haven't fixed the mirror yet due to the frankly exhorbitant rate quoted to me by my local dealer.
I am in the states and the dealer said it would cost $400 for it to be replaced. Being an impoverished student....400 dollars is way out of anything im willing to pay.
Anyone have any ideas?? I have been looking for places where i can buy the part and simply have the dealership install em...but can't seem to find any.
any help would be much appreciated
and i removed the gunk right away and the paintwork is fine..

Just ask your local dealer for a mirror glass without the auto dimming feature (It's sales code 249 if they ask)

I *think* it'll be part number A2088100921 with the steering wheel on your car being on the left.

The glass will go straight on, but you'll have a spare wire for the dimming hanging loose.

The part should be around $90.
